Laura Vargas, BA, MBA

Background

Laura is a passionate and motivated professional committed to execution and excellence. She has a wealth of experience working with clients across diverse set of industries and geographies. Since 1994, she has focused in helping clients reach their profitability goals through improvements in operations, marketing, sales, and, particularly, people strategies. Laura joined Pertec in 2008, served as our Managing Director from August 2010 to September 2011, and currently sits at our Board of Directors.

Expertise

Laura has worked with many global companies in the US, Latin America and Europe. Clients include financial services companies such as MetLife and State Street Bank, pharmaceutical companies such as Merck and MSD, beverage companies such as The Coca-Cola Company, energy companies such as BP, manufacturing companies such as SKF, and hospitality companies such as Starwood Hotels. Projects have typically been complex multi-phased market driven engagements requiring strategic and tactical change management, communications, training, but, most importantly, creative solutions. In addition, Laura has pursued a personal passion of hers: leadership development and executive coaching. Her professional experience is coupled with extensive continuing education and certification in diverse areas such as Leadership Development, Executive Coaching, Consultative Selling Skills, Strategic Prospecting, Influence and Collaboration for Results, Instructional Design, Competency Modelling, Facilitation, Retaining and Developing Talent. Laura earned an MBA from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College and a BA, cum laude, in Economics and International Development from Clark University. Her language skills include Spanish (native), English (native/fluent), French (conversational), Finnish (Yleinen kielitutkintotodistus, keskitaso).

Free time

She is a Costa Rican citizen living in Finland with her husband and two children in a lively multicultural trilingual home. In her free time, besides (or while!) spending time with her family, she enjoys traveling, sports (scuba diving, mountaineering, hiking, boating, skiing, etc), and reading.
