Global Leader- Cross-Cultural seminar
Hanasaari, Espoo, September 18th 2008
Truly global leaders have the competence to manage cultural diversity as an asset, a source of real benefit for their organizations. In order to do this they must understand how culture operates at different levels. At one level, individuals are shaped by their ethnic, racial, religious and national backgrounds. At another, they are influenced by the standards, ideas, beliefs, values and experience of their generation and teams. And at yet another level, they are shaped by the culture and values of their organization. Successfully managed diversity can become a Competitive Advantage for an organization. For example multicultural teams are more creative and find solutions which are easily implemented across borders. Diversity improves the ability to understand customers’ and partners’ needs and allows more effective relationship management. Finally diversity provides access to a larger pool of talent for employers and understanding diversity facilitates retaining that talent in an organization.
For these reasons Global leaders need a new kind of intelligence – cultural intelligence.
